Leaving Q8 Tonight

Leaving Kuwait tonight. Flying to the U.S. of A. to spend the summer with family and friends. Even though it appears that Corky needs more prayer than I...believe me, he doesn't. Pray for me and my family as we try and pack as much quality time in our stay. I left the Calvinistic Cartoons pantry stocked with goodies for your enjoyment and edification while I'm away. I'll stay in touch.

Thanks for the comic panels from a DC comic (that's DC for Democratic Charismatics) that strangely has some parallels to a certain blogger. This comic strip was originally printed in 1967, as a short story, in a magazine entitled, Ticket to Trouble, and the lead character was named, Eddie Headings. 

Mr. Montoya will be receiving a $7,000 check anytime within the next two month of Sundays.

Sandstorm!

This short video is just a small portion of what is happening RIGHT NOW as I am typing. Thank God, that my wife and I were home. I looked out my 10th story apartment and saw the sandstorm coming just like what you see here. The roaring wind is shaking the windows and doors and sand is getting in the rooms. I can't see the building across the street anymore. It's there...just can't see it. There is a fine, moon-dust like sand that can blow in from any small opening or between the sliding doors or windows. You can smell and taste it. I can rake my finger on any surface in the house now and there is this "sand dust". It's a little hazy as I view my computer monitor. I'm sure our cars will be covered in sand by tomorrow. The storm has been going on now for hours and I don't know when it will let up. I have never seen anything like this. That's the Kuwait update. Please remember my wife in prayer. She has asthma and this is a monster sand storm.

Q8 Update # whatever

Wanted to let everyone know (especially those who prayed) that I start my new job as a grade one instructor's assistant, this Sunday. (the work week here is Sunday through Thursday) I am very thankful for this job (first permanent one since I moved here more than a year ago) It doesn't pay much but, it's good to have a job at all. Thank you all again for your spiritual support. Ironically the school (American School of Kuwait) has as it's initials ASK.

I also would like to call attention to my new addition on the Blog roll: Twisted Crown of Thorns.

And now for a little announcement: Would the owner of the silver Ford truck, license number TMC 327, please turn your lights off. Thank you. 

The Last Q8 Update for 2010

I know, I know...I shouldn't have said, "Last Update" the last time. I don't know what I was thinking. I had to go back and change the title of the last update to "Next to the Last Q8 Update".  

I have to let you know that the interview at ITC Promotions went very well. I have until Saturday to design 5 different toys based on a famous animated series. (I am under obligation not to disclose the character). That is a lot harder than you might think. I am in competion with their regular designer who lives in the States.

So please more PUSH (pray until something happens) would be appreciated. There are no guarantees and they won't pay unless the idea(s) are approved by the client.

The really good news is that, when I left the interview, my son-in-law called and told me his friend, who owns a company in Kuwait, wants to hire me full time. The pay is 350 KD (about $1,240 a month) and the company will help me get my residency and work visa. In a land where there is no taxes on anything (and I don't have any bills to pay) that ain't too bad. I can still do free-lance when it comes my way. I hope to purchase a brand new computer after the first of the year. I'll be sure to let you know when that blessed event takes place.

This was an obvious answer to my request for prayer. I can't thank you enough. In honor or your honoring me in your prayers, I am posting a monthly calendar (starting in January 2011) with a Calvinistic Cartoon theme for each month. You can print it out and use it (they all have a shelf life of one month). So far, I have everything pre-scheduled up to Feburary 5th - so two are already waiting for you in the near future. Thanks again, amigos! God is good! He can't be anything else!

Hi everybody! Thought I would give you an update since my computer crashed a while back. It might seem a little bit random. That's because I am a little bit random.

First, the worst part about living overseas is being away from family and friends. It gets extra melancholy around the holidays...especially Christmas.

The Lord has a purpose in where we are at the present.
A friend of my wife shared this with her the other day...
"Have you ever heard of P.U.S.H.? It stands for Pray Until Something Happens!"
I share that with you because we all need a little PUSH now and then, well to be completely honest, ALL THE TIME. Especially those like me who have a "Declaration of DEPENDENCE" on the Lord Jesus Christ.
The day after I asked for prayer about a job, I got a phone call from Romeo Studios in Kuwait. They wanted me to do some voice-acting for a Ferrari commercial. (I had auditioned four or five months ago) I earned 50 dinar for about 15 minutes of work. That's about $175 in American moola. They plan on using me again in the future. Wish I had jobs like that everyday! I was with two other voice-over actors who read for this 30 second commercial. They will edit it, add the sound effects and actually, it's probably playing on the airwaves now. You have to be on call, at the drop of a hat, to run to the studio when the client needs an American voice for his product. I also helped edit some of the "unnatural sounding phrases" the script writer had made.
Anyway, I was thrilled to earn some easy money. (My favorite kind of money)
It's a career I will try to pursue here - since many Kuwaity clients want an authentic American voice on their commercials.

Second, my computer died on me twice. The last one my son-in-law loaned me was so old, it didn't have a CD-ROM or DVD player, just a CD player and a floppy disk slot. The tower is so big it couldn't fit in my computer desk. Well, it crashed again. We found out that the new Photoshop CS5 was just to big for it to handle. My son-in-law and his brother worked on it and we took it to Hawalli (a town in Kuwait) that specializes in rebuilding computers.
In Kuwait, there are sections of town where every shop is about auto parts, or electronics, or furniture. In this one section of Hawalli, every shop for blocks, is only computer related. They installed some things in my computer free of charge.
I am very thankful to have a computer again.

No permanent job as yet. I am going on an interview today at 11:30. It's ITC Promotions, where they design premiums for companies like KFC, McDonald's and Burger King. I did this kind of work in the U.S. for a while, so my portfolio has quite a few designs I created for Pepsi, Lucas Films and Purina.
